Lyme disease is a devastating illness that is now being treated with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy on an experimental basis. For the latest news on the exciting potential that HBO therapy has for treating Lyme disease, see a new article recently published by the non-profit organization, Lyme Alliance (http://www.lymealliance.org).

The article is entitled:

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy?

One patient's experience with a promising new Lyme treatment.

The article can be seen at https://HBOToday.com/treatment/lymediseasearticle.shtml. or see the NEW section on our home page at https://HBOToday.com.

The article is a first-person account of L. James Johnson's experience of taking extensive HBO therapy at the Chico Hyperbaric Center in northern California. This descriptive account of hyperbaric oxygen therapy will be useful to anyone who is investigating the use of HBO therapy in the treatment of Lyme disease.

Johnson discusses many practical aspects of HBO therapy. He talks about a number of his own experiences, from what it is like to breath pure oxygen while under pressure (almost two and a half atmospheres or the equivalent to 45 feet below sea level) to how you need to dress while taking treatments. Johnson also discusses some of the reasons that this unique therapy is being used to treat the most common tick-borne illness in the United States, including current research.

At the Chico Hyperbaric Center, we are pleased to be able to make this article available on our web site. We also wish to thank the Lyme Alliance for publishing the article in their bi-monthly newsletter, Spotlight on Lyme, July/August, 1999 edition. (http://www.lymealliance.org).
